the power supply used is a standard laptop power supply which we do not manufacture. get in touch with support, we'll send you a new one of course. i haven't seen something like this myself but of course, parts can fail. apologies for any inconvenience caused.

best, marc

Thanks Marc, I will get in touch with support tomorrow...

I hold to reassure you, it is the first time that I see something like that. 8|
By chance the Virus Ti desktop did not suffer damage. I tested it with a universal power supply and it seems to function correctly…

Regards,
David.

Faulty capacitor most probably: they're used to convert AC into DC and they explode if damaged, faulty or very old.
Thankfully you and your Virus didn't suffer any damage.

Dear David,
I can assure you that this is the very first time I have ever heard of a TI power supply exploding and I'm doing product support for quite a while now.

Best wishes,
Jörg Hüttner

This might have happened if the cable that connects to the power supply was not fully inserted. Current still passes, but the power supply overheats and then BOOM!
That's how I blew the power supply of my Nova.

Same thing happened to my p/s last year, the unit was cracked up the sides and went off with a bang.

Quite an anxious wait in-between waiting for the replacement not knowing if the synth was fried.
