No Virus TI can be found

New to this forum and just purchased my first (used) Virus TI Desktop.
I have installed several versions of the software that is supposed to be compatable with Win7 64 bit and I keep getting this error in both Acid Pro 6 and Ableton 7.
The troubleshooting directions state to plug in the Virus while holding down the Arp Edit button and then wait for it to reset. However all this does for me is take me to a USB Mode and it sits there indefinitely while the BPM LED slowly blinks.

I already emailed access support but I dont think they are available until tomorrow.

So I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this problem?

Maybe I can fix it in the meantime but I really hope this Virus TI doesnt have something wrong with it.

Well I have tried absolutely everything I can think of. Even had a computer guru friend try and make it work with no results.

The weird thing is I have tried this Virus TI with 2 other laptops and 1 desktop and it worked with every single one....so why in the world does my laptop not recognize it???

I have tried every single virus OS release (both 32 and 64 bit) compatable with my laptop OS which is Win7. This laptop used to however have Vista on it but I purchased an upgrade disc for Win7 and just let it write over Vista. I highly doubt that has anything to do with it but who knows at this point.

There have actually been two times my laptop recognized that the virus was plugged in but they were most likely flukes because the vst in my daw would keep saying No Virus TI can be found.

Lately though my laptop simply WILL NOT recognize there is a usb device plugged in (and yes I've tried several different usb cables besides the one it came with). Another weird thing is one of the laptops I tried the Virus with said there was a power surge when I plugged in the Virus....Really?? Why would a powered device need to send or receive power? I am baffled at what Access has done with their USB configuration and just dont understand how a printer, external hard drive, mouse and keyboard all work perfectly fine on my usb ports but a Synthesizer worth more than all of those put together does not. And yes I have tried every single usb port on here.

With the power thing in mind though I tried a powered usb hub to see if it would alleviate anything and still nothing. But the Virus must be a serious hog because my mouse will work when plugged into the hub but when I plug in my virus my mouse stops working!! Also noticed that my laptop will not reboot if the Virus is plugged in. I mean no offense to Access but who designed your usb implentation because it is the absolute worst I have ever seen. Somebody should be getting fired over this.

My laptop has an ICH8 chipset if that is helpful to anyone in troubleshooting. My laptop is a Gateway T-6836. Oh and as it turns out the laptop that said it had a power surge but still recognized the virus had an ICH7 chipset. Go figure.

If anyone has any ideas what so ever I would love to hear them.

Sorry for the terribly late response. I did find a solution to the problem.

I had to buy a dedicated USB pci card for my desktop. The usb ports on my motherboard were just not doing it. I also have heard from someone else that not giving the virus enough power can be an issue. So definitely make sure you arent plugging it into an overloaded powerstrip. Hope this helps someone in the future!

I can confirm. Had the same problem, bought an extra PCI Card with USB Ports and it works!
